Noise-induced Hearing Loss

Noise-induced hearing loss is cumulative over time.

Continued exposure can lead to irreversible damage resulting in permanent hearing loss and/or tinnitus.

Damage depends on the intensity, duration, and frequency of your exposure.

The The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) limits exposure to 85 decibels of sound pressure level (dB SPL) over an 8 hour period.

A live music show averages at 93-106dB SPL.

Using the NIOSH recommended exchange rate, you can safely listen (without earplugs) in a 106dB SPL environment for 3.75 minutes.

3.75 minutes.
